In Central New York, the Gannon name brings two things to mind: effective pest control and delicious ice cream. While we can't claim kinship with the ice cream dynasty, we certainly appreciate a good sundae! Our company began over three decades ago when Billy Viel partnered with his stepdaughter, Jennifer Savastino, transforming what started as Billy's side business into a flourishing family enterprise.

Our team of skilled technicians stays current with cutting-edge treatments and technologies, bringing decades of combined experience to every service call. No pest problem is too challenging—we've encountered and conquered them all. Our mission remains what Billy envisioned: safeguard homes and businesses throughout Syracuse and Central New York, ensuring families and organizations can focus on what matters most without worrying about unwanted invaders.

A Syracuse Family Business

Billy Viel dedicated over 30 years to serving Syracuse as a firefighter while simultaneously battling a different kind of emergency—pest infestations across Central New York. When retirement from the fire department arrived, Billy seized the opportunity to purchase the pest control company where he'd been working part-time. The decision was driven by two convictions: he recognized the business's solid foundation and saw the chance to build something meaningful alongside his family, beginning with Jennifer.

Beyond his professional commitments, Billy orchestrated legendary family Sunday dinners that brought everyone together. His passion for coins led him to curate personalized coin collections for each of his seven grandchildren, whose ages spanned from one to 30. As a dedicated member of The Syracuse Gem and Mineral Society for over 15 years, Billy & his wife Sharon also pursued a fascination with rock and gem collecting. Though Billy passed away in late 2024, his legacy of family values, community service, and dedication to protecting Central New York homes continues to guide everything we do.

Jennifer, a Le Moyne College graduate, was building her career in the New York State court system when Billy presented his vision of creating a family business. Her technological expertise proved invaluable as the company needed to modernize beyond traditional pen-and-paper operations. Jennifer spearheaded the transition to digital solutions, implementing online ordering systems, electronic scheduling, and equipping the team with tablets to track appointments and treatment protocols seamlessly.

Jennifer's commitment to community service extends far beyond the business. She serves as a director for Syracuse Challenger Baseball, helped establish 100 Women Who Care as a founding member, and participates in the Women President's Organization, among numerous other civic engagements. As a mother to Joshua and bonus mother to Daniel and Colin, she balances her professional innovations with family responsibilities.

Gannon Pest Control embodies the essence of a Syracuse family business. What began with three part-time employees has expanded into a dedicated team of 20 professionals. For many years, Sharon—Jennifer's mother and Billy's wife—served as the heart of our customer service operations before her passing. She developed genuine relationships with countless clients, taking personal interest in their lives and well-being during every interaction. Though we have lost both Billy and Sharon, their spirit of genuine care and dedication to customers continues to be the foundation of how we operate today.

Our family's commitment to Syracuse extends throughout the community. We actively participate in and sponsor local fundraising events whenever possible, understanding that supporting our neighbors strengthens the entire region.
