At Gannon Pest Control, we recommend scheduling your late-summer fall barrier treatment between August 15 and September 15. That narrow window gives us the best chance to stop stink bugs, cluster flies and other overwintering invaders before they move from the landscape into the warm, sheltered spaces of your home.
Why August 15–September 15 matters
Many nuisance insects begin seeking shelter as daylight shortens and nights cool. Treating during this mid‑August to mid‑September window places a fresh, effective residual barrier in place just before the bulk of the migration starts.
Too early and the residual protection can wear down before peak activity; too late and pests may already be inside. This date range balances product longevity with pest behavior for most climates.
What a professional barrier treatment does
Treats the perimeter: foundation, eaves, soffits, window and door frames, garage openings, and other likely entry points.
Creates a contact barrier that repels or kills insects attempting to cross it, dramatically reducing the number that can enter wall voids, attics and living spaces.
Can be combined with focused attic or void treatments and exclusion work when inspections show pests are already inside.
Pests we commonly prevent
Stink bugs (including brown marmorated stink bug): congregate on exterior walls and enter voids and attics to overwinter.
Cluster flies: seek attics and wall voids and can create large nuisance populations in spring.
Boxelder bugs, lady beetles and other overwintering nuisance insects.
